A very bright and fresh Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge 2011 that shows pure red fruit with elements of spiced plum, and balancing tannins.
This is a delightful village Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge.
Known today for the exceptional white wines from Chassagne-Montrachet, historically it was the reds of the region that were held in higher esteem. The clay and sand soil over limestone is actually better suited to growing Pinot Noir than Chardonnay and, although much less common than previously, some extremely fine red Chassagne-Montrachet is still produced.
This villages example from Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard is one of them.
