A long, mild growing season in Coonawarra provides an ideal climate for growing Chardonnay grapes.
They were picked at the coolest time of the day to protect the fruit, and it was harvested in two picks enabling the winemaking team to capture true varietal flavours in the fruit. Crushed and pressed and allowed to cold stabilise in stainless steel tanks fermentation also took place in stainless steel, and the wine was bottled early to retain its bright, crisp characters.
The Bard range from Hollick celebrates the work of Australia’s best known lyric poet, John Shaw Neilson, who was raised in the cottage on the Hollick Neilson’s Block vineyard.
Revered by his peers in the world of literature, Neilson was born in Penola in 1872, and it is thought that much of the imagery in his poems was conjured up during his childhood experiences in the swampy bushland around Coonawarra.
