Côte Chalonnaise is a great source of affordable and well endowed red Burgundy.
This particular Maison Chanzy Mercurey 1er Cru Clos Du Roy Rouge comes from a small, 1.5ha parcel of 35 year old vines where the quality of grapes produced is particularly fine.
As with most of the Maison Chanzy red wines, this 1er cru Mercurey was aged in small oak barrels for 10 months, 30% of which were new. It was then transferred to stainless steel to allow it to “come together” before bottling.
Rich, meaty and solidly put together, Mercurey is secure in its position among the royalty of wines.
